People with diabetes require regular medical check-ups to test for complications. Early treatment can help delay or prevent the progression of complications, and avoid the consequences such as foot ulcers.

The following should be checked by your doctor over a 12 month period, as part of your annual health care cycle.

AT EACH VISIT

Blood pressure, weight, blood glucose levels, and medication.

EVERY THREE TO SIX MONTHS.

HbA1c (Glycosylated Hemoglobin Test) with a maximum reading of 7.

EVERY TWELVE MONTHS

Eyes, feet, blood fat profile (i.e. lipids).

CARING FOR YOURSELF

Live a healthy lifestyle, take your medication as directed, have regular dental checks, don’t smoke and undertake a regular exercise program.
